Nissan Tire Care

Nissan tire maintenance is one of the many kinds of preventative maintenance you should get for your car. Getting the right maintenance prevents your tires from wearing out too quickly, and regular tire checks also ensure you never drive on tires that don’t have enough tread.

Tread Depth Checks

You need at least 2/32 of an inch of tire tread for safe driving, so regularly check your tread depth with a tread depth gauge or a penny. When using a penny, put the coin upside down into the tread. If you can see his head above the raised part of the tread, then you don’t have enough tread to drive safely.

Tire Pressure Checks

Check your tire pressure at least once a month with a tire pressure gauge when the tires are cool. Make sure they’re at the right PSI for your vehicle. The appropriate PSI should be indicated in your owner’s manual and on a sticker inside the car. If your tire pressure drops too low, then top up the air in them ASAP.

Tire Rotations

Tire rotations prevent premature and uneven tire wear. If you have a front or rear-wheel drive vehicle, then you’ll need to get the tires rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. All-wheel-drive vehicles need rotations every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

Tire Alignments

Tire alignments are done as needed. As you drive, your tires may begin to tilt away from or toward the car, turn to the left or right, or be tilted forward or back on their steering axis. Regularly check that your tires are sitting flat on the ground and facing forward. Your car regularly turning to one side while you’re trying to drive straight, a tilted steering wheel, and excessive vibrations while you’re driving are often signs you need a tire alignment.

Tire Balancing

The distribution of your car’s weight on your tires can become uneven, so you end up needing tire balancing service. Imbalanced wheels can damage your suspension, make your tires wear down too fast, or make rides uncomfortable due to excessive vibrations. You typically need to get your tires balanced every 5,000 to 6,000 miles, so getting the service done during tire rotation visits is a good way to take care of multiple problems at once.

Tire Replacements

You need to replace your tires if your tread is too shallow. You also need a new set if there’s any damage, such as cracking or bulging, on the sidewalls. If the tread is uneven and can’t be corrected by getting your tires realigned or rotated, then you will also need new tires. It’s a good idea to replace your tires every six years to try to avoid issues.
